Dates: September 30–November 15, 2026
Location: Changwon, South Korea
Han Dong participates in the Changwon Sculpture Biennale 2026 with Hive Center for Contemporary Art, presenting Elegy of the Ice Age No. 9 (Sacrifice) and Ode to the Sun No. 20 (The Might of the Earth).
Under the theme “Resonance Field,” the biennale explores sculpture as an expanded medium in dialogue with both history and the present. Hosted by Changwon Special City and organized and managed by the Changwon Cultural Foundation, the exhibition extends across cultural venues and urban spaces, including Seongsan Art Hall, the House of Changwon, the Changwon History and Folklore Museum, the Jinhae Station area, and Masan Fish Market.
Elegy of the Ice Age No. 9 (Sacrifice) continues Han Dong’s exploration of prehistoric time and the earliest states of life. His practice seeks an instinctive realm beyond learned experience and established knowledge, returning sculpture to a shared spiritual source. Here, sacrifice becomes more than a ritual scene: it evokes a condition of existence in which life yields and transforms within time and the laws of nature.
Ode to the Sun No. 20 (The Might of the Earth) is a representative work from Han Dong’s ongoing Ode to the Sun series. Moving beyond literal representation, the sculpture gives bronze form to the elemental energy stirring beneath the earth, suggesting a latent vitality slowly rising to the surface.
