Dates: September 24–December 31, 2026
Location: Jing’an Sculpture Park, Shanghai, China
Curatorial Organization: UCCA Lab
Han Dong’s Ode to the Sun No. 5 (Heart of the Universe) and Ode to the Sun No. 15 (Cloud Beast 3) are on view at Jing’an Sculpture Park as part of the 2026 Jing’an International Sculpture Project (JISP).
Founded in 2010 and held biennially, JISP is one of mainland China’s earliest international public sculpture projects. The 2026 edition, “Shapes of Becoming,” takes Jing’an Sculpture Park as its main exhibition site and extends along West Nanjing Road and Suzhou Creek, connecting public art with the surrounding urban landscape.
The exhibition considers the changing relationship between sculpture, public space, and everyday life. As artificial intelligence, sensing technologies, and digital media reshape the boundaries between human and machine, physical and virtual, sculpture retains a direct relationship with material, weight, scale, and the human body. At the same time, moving images, sound, light, natural environments, and audiences themselves become part of its expanding possibilities.
“Shapes of Becoming” focuses on reality as an unfolding process: changes that are still taking shape, remain unresolved, or disappear almost as soon as they emerge. Within this setting, Han Dong’s two sculptures bring his ongoing Ode to the Sun series into the public space of the park.

UCCA Lab
